Our guest tea menu has seen the introduction of not 1, not 2 but 3 exciting new offerings recently. You will have read in my previous blog post that we have introduced two stunning black teas both with tropical and floral characteristics which helped us get into that summer vibe but I wanted to spend a little more time in this post to explain the introduction of Matcha on our menu.
Firstly, what is Macha?
Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. It is special in two aspects of farming and processing: the green tea plants for matcha are shade-grown for three to four weeks before harvest, and the stems and veins are removed during processing. The powdered form of matcha is consumed differently from tea leaves or tea bags, and is suspended in a liquid, typically water or milk.
Matcha contains a rich mix of vitamins, antioxidants and amino acids that can elevate mood and concentration. The caffeine level in a cup of matcha is slightly higher than in green tea, and is equivalent to about half a cup of coffee.
What does it taste like?
This naturally vivid green drink has a velvety smooth, full bodied liquor with a creamy froth. You can expect a savoury quality with an aroma of baby spinach. We will be offering an optional sweetener of honey to help balance the flavour.
When we did our team tasting it definitely split opinion. I personally enjoy it and is a nice alternative to my usual go to caffeine fix. We can’t wait to share
this new drink with you and would love to hear what you think. Keep an eye out for our new matcha smoothie, Pretty Green, made with avocado, matcha, lime, honey and coconut milk. .
